Ali projected for second term

–as PPP/C heads for another historic victory

President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali is projected to begin a second term in office as the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) heads for a resounding victory at the 2025 General and Regional Elections.

While the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has not yet officially declared the results, the tabulation of Statements of Poll (SoPs) published on its website indicates that the PPP/C is on course to secure a decisive win across the country.

Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips and Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo are also set to return to government, continuing their leadership roles in the administration.

In a surprise development, the newly formed We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party is projected to outpace A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) in several areas, siphoning off significant votes that traditionally went to the opposition bloc. Based on the current trajectory, APNU is heading for heavy losses across multiple regions.

For the first time in history, the PPP/C is projected to win Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica)—the largest electoral district in the country and traditionally a stronghold of the People’s National Congress-Reform (PNC-R) and APNU.
Region Four carries the most registered voters, making it a critical factor in determining the overall outcome of the election. Preliminary analysis suggests that much of APNU’s traditional support in this region shifted to WIN, leaving the PPP/C to secure a commanding lead.

Beyond Region Four, the governing PPP/C is also projected to clinch majorities in Regions One, Two, Three, Five, Six, Eight, and Nine, consolidating its dominance nationwide.

GECOM continues to tabulate results and has urged citizens to rely solely on the official Statements of Poll posted on its website for verified updates. The final declaration of results will be made by the Commission in the coming days.

More details will follow as the process unfolds.
