—Steven Jacobs rallies Stabroek Market square
Rallying a large gathering of supporters at the Stabroek Market Square, People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) councillor Steven Jacobs urged citizens not to gamble with their future, but rather to make a conscious decision to support continued development.
Jacobs, addressing the crowd directly, reminded residents of Georgetown that the People’s National Congress Reform/A Partnership for Unity (PNCR/APNU)-led Mayor and City Council (M&CC) had failed to provide even the most basic services.
“You talk about services that they’re supposed to give you and they don’t deliver—simply picking up garbage,” he said, pointing out the stark contrast between City Hall’s record and Central Government’s intervention.
Jacobs emphasised that it was the PPP/C Government that has taken the lead in modernising the capital, investing billions of dollars in drainage, roads, housing and community facilities despite City Hall’s neglect.
“We want to empower every single Guyanese, and for that reason, within the next five years, because we know we will win this election, because of the support that you will give us, and because of the work and the promises we made and delivered,” Jacobs declared.
Underscoring the importance of the upcoming polls, Jacobs said, “We’re not playing raffle. It’s serious business.”
He urged supporters to cast their votes for a government with a proven track record of delivery rather than one that had left the municipality bankrupt.
Back in 2024, revelations showed that the PNCR was a major contributor to City Hall’s financial woes, saddling the M&CC with debts exceeding $6.7 billion.
