ALLUDING to the large crowds at every People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) political meeting and rally during this 2025 election campaign period, Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance and the Public Service, Dr. Ashni Singh posited that the party is currently at its strongest in living memory.

The minister gave this perspective during a television programme aired on the National Communications Network (NCN) in Berbice. Dr. Singh has been on the ground consistently in Region Six and in other parts of Guyana along with other Cabinet members since the party took office in August 2020.

“I say this for a number of reasons. First of all, we launched our campaign in Kitty with what everybody has described as the largest political meeting in living memory. And we have had a succession of political election rallies since Kitty, including one in Albion and in many other places in Lethem recently. And at rally after rally, we are seeing the largest crowds ever gathered and even within those crowds, we are seeing a number of very interesting characteristics that are noteworthy,” he explained to the programme’s host Christopher Holder.

The minister then zeroed in on the fact that there has been the continuous presence of long-standing supporters who have been with the party for generations.

“But you’re also seeing more than at any other time in history, a presence of new supporters of the People’s Progressive Party, and you have seen this, literally, at every single rally and at every single public meeting that we have had, people who have said, this is the first time that I’ve come to a political rally, or this is the first time that I’ve come to the rally held by the People’s Progressive Party,” he added.

He noted too that many supporters have stated that they wanted to be present to show their support for the party and for President Irfaan Ali.

“And the fact that we’ve seen the continued presence of our traditional support base and this mass influx of a new support base tells me that we are poised for a historic victory come first of September 2025, because It tells me that the traditional base is intact and it tells me that we have made tremendous inroads into demographic groups who, perhaps historically, might either have been sitting on the fence or perhaps might have been supporting another party,” Dr. Singh posited further.

Minister Singh added that the party also received very strong endorsements of President Ali from a large number of Guyanese, who are saying “we recognise what the people’s Progressive Party has done for Guyana and has done for us as citizens of Guyana, and we want to see more of these positive developments that have been delivered by the People’s Progressive Party and by President Ali.”

He related that from the party’s interactions on the ground, many persons have also said that there is no way that they will support any other party other than the PPP/C.

“Away from the glare of cameras, away from the formal setting of a political rally, you are hearing this very clearly, community after community, village after village, street after street, you’re witnessing an unprecedented outpouring of love for the political leadership of the People’s Progressive Party,” Dr. Singh underscored.

The minister concluded by alluding to the recent Local Government Elections where the party was able to gain additional seats in areas that were not traditionally the party’s support base, pointing out that if this historic trend is observed, then it should not be a surprise.

“Because in areas where historically we have not done as well as we have done in other areas, we have seen a significant improvement,” he further stated.

The party will continue its campaign all across the country. Its last major rally is slated for Lusignan on Saturday, August 30, as Guyanese prepare to vote in 2025 National and Regional Election on September 1.
