MINISTER of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill, on Tuesday, announced major traffic diversions along the East Bank Demerara (EBD) public road to facilitate the ongoing rehabilitation works between Diamond and Good Success.
The announcement was made during a site visit to the area on Tuesday, where Minister Edghill was accompanied by Traffic Chief, Senior Superintendent Mahendra Singh, and Head of the Special Projects Unit, Mr. Colin Gittens. The visit aimed to assess the pace of works and implement traffic strategies to ease congestion.

Under the new traffic management plan, private vehicles will be temporarily rerouted to bypass roads along the corridor. Trucks and public transportation will continue to utilise the main EBD road during the construction phase.
Minister Edghill emphasised that the temporary measure is intended to improve traffic flow and ensure the safety of all commuters while critical rehabilitation work continues. He noted that the diversion is necessary to reduce delays and minimise risks in a high-traffic zone.
The Ministry of Public Works has extended its appreciation to the public for their co-operation and understanding during the implementation of these changes and has urged all road users to adhere strictly to traffic advisories and signs.
The road rehabilitation project forms part of the government’s broader effort to upgrade national infrastructure and improve transport efficiency along one of the country’s busiest corridors.
