– limited reopening for select programmes

The University of Guyana (UG) has received more than 20,000 applications for the 2025/2026 academic year following the government’s rollout of fully funded tuition, marking an unprecedented response since applications opened on April 1.

Due to the overwhelming demand, UG had closed its application portal on May 16. However, after receiving numerous requests from prospective students and stakeholders, the university has announced a limited reopening of applications for select programmes that still have space available. The application portal will reopen from Friday, May 30 until midnight on Monday, June 2, 2025.

While many of UG’s most competitive programmes have already been oversubscribed by several hundred applicants, those interested can still apply to programmes that remain open at both the Turkeyen and Berbice campuses by visiting: Turkeyen Campus: https://turkeyenonline.uog.edu.gy/srms/student/prospective/application/login.php or Berbice Campus: https://tainonline.uog.edu.gy/srms/student/prospective/application/login.php

University officials are encouraging applicants to ensure that their submissions are fully completed. There remains a high number of initiated but incomplete applications. Responses to applications already submitted will be issued between mid-June and August.

Orientation for new students is expected to begin around August 25, 2025, and this year, successful applicants will have a two-week window to accept their offer due to the surge in applications. Students are urged to monitor their SRMS accounts and email regularly to avoid missing critical updates.

Meanwhile, continuing students will be able to submit their applications for the new academic year between June 16 and August 1, 2025.

The university has also encouraged students currently writing CSEC examinations to apply in advance and authorize the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) to forward their results directly to UG. Some programmes offer provisional acceptance pending final grades.

For details on programme offerings, application procedures, and academic updates, prospective and continuing students should consult UG’s official website at https://uog.edu.gy or the Student Records Management System (SRMS).
