THE Office of the Prime Minister’s Industry and Innovation Unit (OPM/IIU) has launched the inaugural Technology Concept Sprint 2025, a groundbreaking competition designed to empower youth to develop innovative concepts that can be transformed into technological solutions.
Held under the theme “Incubating Innovation,” the competition targets young people between the ages of 14 and 18 from Regions Two, Three, Five, and Six. This initiative aims to provide an opportunity for participants outside of Georgetown to engage in technology-driven problem-solving and creative development.

Outreach Officer at OPM-IIU, Jennifer Persaud-Boodhoo, explained on a recent broadcast of Guyana Today that this initiative marks a shift in focus. “We see most of the time, and this is from a decision from the department, that the majority of the time we target Georgetown,” she said. “So we don’t want to specifically focus on that area at this moment, given also it’s the first time that we’re introducing this programme. We want to bring it out to the other regions as well.”
The Technology Concept Sprint 2025 offers a platform for young minds to collaborate, brainstorm, and compete in designing innovative products and services that contribute to Guyana’s technological advancement. Participants will receive a Statement of Problem (SOP) and must develop a ‘technology solution concept’ addressing the issue within five days.

Areas of focus for the competition include: Technology in Education (EdTech); Technology in Health (HealthTech); Sustainable Technology; Robotics, and E-Commerce.
Beyond fostering problem-solving skills, the competition will also provide participants with an opportunity to network with other creative youth and develop key competencies for the evolving digital landscape.
The competition will be judged regionally, culminating in a final showdown in Georgetown, where regional finalists will present their refined solutions to a panel of industry experts.
According to the Office of the Prime Minister, the initiative aligns with the government’s vision of accelerating ICT growth and nurturing the next generation of tech leaders. It is expected to play a pivotal role in Guyana’s digital transformation by encouraging innovation, creativity, and problem-solving among young people.
