THE Ministry of Education (MoE) has launched “Project Map,” a cutting-edge digital platform designed to enhance transparency and public engagement in school construction projects across Guyana. This initiative allows real-time tracking of ongoing, completed, and extension projects at nursery, primary, and secondary schools nationwide.

With its user-friendly interface, Project Map enables parents, teachers, students, the media, and other stakeholders to search by region to view details on school construction and renovation works. Each school listing includes key information such as: The contractor’s name, Tender date, Project cost, and Additional relevant details

Speaking at the official launch on Tuesday, Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, highlighted the government’s extensive investment in education infrastructure over the past four years.
“We have been building, rebuilding, or significantly extending schools across Guyana. Intermittently, members of the public, parents, and the media reach out to us to find out whether a school is being built, when it will be completed, and who the contractor is. These are things that should be easily accessible in one space,” Minister Manickchand stated.

The Minister noted that Project Map brings all this information together, making it readily available to the public for the first time.
Currently, the total value of school infrastructure projects nationwide stands at approximately $60,134,440. However, Minister Manickchand acknowledged the challenges faced in executing such large-scale projects.
“We’re working with people, and that comes with different challenges. We’ve had to terminate contractors, extend deadlines, and work closely with builders to ensure schools are completed because we want our children in their classrooms,” she explained.

ENCOURAGING PUBLIC FEEDBACK
Minister Manickchand urged widespread use of the platform and invited the public to provide feedback.
“If you see anything that seems inaccurate, we’d be happy to hear from you during this testing period to correct or update any missing information. But we didn’t want to wait too much longer before presenting this tool to the public,” she added.
The Project Map platform is accessible online at: https://v5.education.gov.gy/.
This initiative marks another step in the Ministry of Education’s commitment to transparency and accountability, ensuring that school infrastructural development remains open and accessible to all Guyanese.
