Dead: Meshach Pierre

AUTHORITIES are investigating the sudden death of 30-year-old mammologist, Meshach Pierre, who was found unresponsive at the G2 Minerals Guyana Inc. compound in Oku Backdam, Cuyuni-Mazaruni, on Thursday.
According to initial reports, Pierre was conducting a mammal survey at the site, which he had started on September 14. The compound, located in the remote Oku Backdam region, accommodated Pierre and eleven other individuals. Pierre had been sharing a room with his assistant, Philbert Denhart.
On the day of the incident, Pierre approached Denhart and two other workers who were sitting under a shade, instructing Denhart not to return to their room as he had a meeting. However, around 14:55 hours, Denhart was reminded by a colleague that it was time to start working. He hurried back to the room, where he made a shocking discovery.

Upon opening the door, Denhart found Pierre crouched on the floor, motionless, with his tongue protruding from his mouth. He immediately summoned the Medic, who arrived swiftly but later confirmed that Pierre had passed away.
Following the Medic’s report, local police were alerted and arrived at the scene shortly after. Pierre’s body was transported to the Bartica Regional Hospital for further examination, while Denhart was taken into custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
At approximately 11:15 hours Friday, a post-mortem examination with dissection was performed on Pierre’s body at the Bartica Regional Hospital.

The examination, conducted by government pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh, concluded that the cause of death was “compression injuries to the neck.” Meshach Pierre’s body was identified by his father, Mark Pierre, a 63-year-old veterinarian from Lot 60 Atlantic Ville, Georgetown.
Meanwhile, police have reportedly discovered a ‘suicide note’ on Pierre’s phone, addressed to his family and outlining reasons for his intention to take his own life. Despite this finding, investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death are ongoing.
