CURL Fête 2024 has made a grand return, celebrating natural hair in its most vibrant and expansive edition yet.
Spanning from Saturday through Sunday, this much-anticipated event will see over a hundred businesses, both small and large, taking to the Promenade Gardens to honour all things naturally beautiful.
This year’s Curl Fête aims to surpass previous iterations by expanding its focus beyond just natural hair. With a core mission of embracing natural beauty, Curl Fête 2024 will also highlight skincare, wellness, pageants, and massages as integral parts of the celebration.

Celebrated under the theme, ‘Splash’, the event promises to make a significant impact with more businesses, larger booths, and a diverse array of entertainment options for attendees to enjoy. The festivities kicked off on Saturday morning on an energetic note, as coordinators and business owners prepared for a full day of activities stretching late into the night. By afternoon, dozens of attendees were already dressed to impress, eagerly exploring what the festival had to offer.

Nikeisha Castello, Head of Marketing for Curl Fête, spoke to the Sunday Chronicle as the event unfolded, expressing excitement over the growing crowd, and the unique offerings planned for the weekend.
Founded by a group of young, dynamic Afro-Guyanese pioneers, led by Mrs. Tamika Henry-Fraser, Curl Fête is now in its second year following its revival in 2022. According to Castello, visitors can expect a range of engaging experiences over the next two days, including the highly-anticipated “Big Chop”, a Curl Fête tradition.

“The Big Chop is where we take someone and cut off all their hair, encouraging them to embrace their fully natural look,” Castello explained.
She added, “This year, instead of someone with relaxed hair, we have a woman who reached out to us. She’s grown her natural hair for a long time, and now, at her age, she wants the ease of managing it. So, she’s going to do the Big Chop.”

Adding to the excitement, Castello revealed, “We also have a hair expert coming all the way from Puerto Rico.”
Beyond the Big Chop, the event features various shows focused on wellness, dental care, and styling tips. The evenings are reserved for grand performances, with several Guyanese artistes set to take the stage.
“This is the first time Curl Fête is being held over two consecutive days, which makes it very special to us. We want everyone to embrace their natural beauty, and celebrate who they are,” Castello said.
