THE Ministry of Health received a significant donation of IT equipment from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on Wednesday to support the Maternal and Child Health Department. The handover ceremony took place in the Ministry of Health’s Board Room.

The donation includes nine desktop computers, six printers, five tablets, headphones, and memory cards

The donation included nine desktop computers, six printers, five tablets, headphones, and memory cards. These will be provided to the central vaccine bond to enhance immunisation efforts through improved vaccine stock management and reporting, as well as to strengthen surveillance capacity for the immunisation programme.

Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, highlighted the ministry’s ongoing initiative to develop an Electronic Health Record (EHR) System.
He announced that, by the end of 2025, the necessary software would be developed to modernise health records management. “As part of the modernisation of the ministry, one of the things we are doing is developing an electronic record system. Later this year, a company will start the work on developing appropriate software, so that each person who interacts with the public health system will have a unique identifier and be able to create a unique record for them,” Dr. Anthony explained.
The brief handover ceremony was attended by several key officials, including Dr. Oneka Scott, Maternal and Child Health Officer; Joann Mandisa, Health Officer; Fiona Persaud, Education Specialist; Crystal Stoll, Communications Officer; and other health officials.
This donation from UNICEF marks a step forward in bolstering the country’s immunisation infrastructure and supporting the broader goal of modernising Guyana’s healthcare system.
