DURING the activities of a mobile patrol in the area of Cracrana, Karasabai Village, South Pakaraimas, two police officers came across Vibert Thomas, a 29-year-old Mason from Karasabai. Thomas was spotted riding a bicycle with a lengthy metal object positioned on his right shoulder.

The patrolling officers, riding in a Police ATV, moved closer to Thomas who dropped a metal object next to a mango tree and positioned himself a short distance away. The ranks proceeded to retrieve the object and inspected it in the presence of Vibert Thomas. It was noted that it was an improvised single-barrel shotgun.
The firearm underwent inspection; however, no ammunition or serial number was observed. The authorities enquired of Vibert Thomas the validity of his firearm licence, to which he responded in the negative. When told of the offence committed, Thomas said he “made the gun to hunt” when on his farm.
He was arrested and escorted to Karasabai Police Station along with the suspected firearm.
