THE Region 10 Tourism Committee (RTTC) Incorporated recently launched its Greater Guyana Initiative-sponsored tourism capacity-building project and opened its new office at the Linden Fund USA building, South Industrial Area.
The project is said to be geared towards building the capacity of Region 10 tourism through the development and implementation of training and related activities.
According to a press release, the end goal is to establish a standard of training for tourism service providers in Region 10, to enhance the presentation of tourism products, create jobs and improve skills.
Committee Chairman Devin Sears said: “As Guyana continues to be globally recognised as the number one eco-tourism destination in the world and with an economy that is growing at an exponential rate, Region 10 will not be left behind, and I can confidently say that with the inputs from all stakeholders, we can turn this emerging industry into something that changes the lives [sic] of every citizen in a positive way.”
Aiding in the success of this project, a new office was opened, followed by an administrative officer being assigned and a minibus unveiled.
Delivering the feature address to those gathered at the event, President of the Tourism Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG), Dee George affirmed THAG’s support in all its endeavours, and commended the committee for the steps it has taken to move tourism forward in Region 10.
She charged the committee and other tourism stakeholders to make safety a priority, and underscored its importance.
The Region 10 Tourism Committee Incorporated, in December 2021 officially registered as a Not-for-profit organisation and has always maintained a nonpartisan approach towards achieving its objective which simply surrounds making Region 10 the number one tourism destination in the country, and possibly the Caribbean in time to come.
In an effort to bring awareness to tourism development in Linden, the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce in November 2023 hosted a media familiarisation tour during which media representatives were able to see several of the region’s magnificent tourist destinations, including Rockstone, Linden’s popular Blue Lake, and Wayne’s World, among other attractions.
It is hoped that through this initiative the public will become aware of tourism options and destinations.
