THE United Kingdom-based Non-Government Organisation (NGO), Get Safe Online, has recently certified its third cohort of ambassadors as part of its efforts to push the importance of cyber security.
On Wednesday, several persons attached to the National Data Management Authority (NDMA) received their certificates upon completing the ambassador programme through the organisation.
According to British High Commissioner to Guyana, Jane Miller, Get Safe Online has been working across the United Kingdom, both in the public sector and private sector, to edify persons on cyber security and cyber awareness.
High Commissioner Miller said: “So these ambassadors have been working hard going across Guyana, particularly in schools, ensuring that thousands of young people now can get online safely.”
Added to this, the High Commissioner said that the collaboration came as the NGO is currently working across 20 countries and has been impressed by the work that has been happening in Guyana.
Meanwhile, Political, Press and Public Affairs Officer at the British High Commission, Tianna Graham, told members of the media that the programme is in its third year and this is the third batch of ambassadors that have been certified.
She added that the programme teaches cybersecurity and cyber resilience, and a lot of the work that the ambassadors have done has been in schools in Georgetown as the programme is being delivered through NDMA.
“They go into schools, go into communities and they basically deliver sessions on using the internet, how to identify ransomware, how to identify spam emails, phishing,” Miller added.
