FOLLOWING his early retirement, Colonel Trevor Bowman MSM bid farewell to the Guyana National Reserve (GNR) on Thursday, while a new Commandant was welcomed. He handed over command to Lieutenant Colonel Lloyd Souvenir.
The formalisation of the new command commenced with the swearing-in of Colonel Souvenir by Chief-of-Staff, Brigadier Omar Khan, prior to the parade. The Change of Command Parade was held at Base Camp Seweyo, located on the Linden Soesdyke Highway.
Colonel Bowman is a graduate of the Standard Officer Course 24 and enlisted in the Guyana Defence Force in August 1993. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in May 1994 and has given 30 years of distinguished service to his country.
During his extensive military career, Colonel Bowman held 12 appointments and served at 8 units across the Force. He has completed military training in a number of countries including Brazil, French Guiana, the United Kingdom, the United States, Jamaica, and Canada to name a few.
In his farewell remarks, Colonel Bowman reminisced on his years as a young Officer and his many adventures. He also noted his numerous years spent training and learning in various countries and the immense benefits his service has afforded him.
In closing, Colonel Bowman reflected on his COVID-19 battle, which encouraged him to alter his life’s course and prioritise the things that matter, such as the health and spiritual well-being of himself and his family. He also shared his future plans to use the vast knowledge and skills he has acquired to benefit his country in other capacities.
The Chief-of-Staff, Officers and Ranks thank Colonel Bowman for his exemplary and dedicated service to the GDF and Guyana and wish him well in his retirement and future endeavours.
