CONSTRUCTION is already well underway on the US$32.2 million (almost G$6.8 billion) Hyatt Place Hotel at Providence, East Bank Demerara, which is slated to be completed next year.
The spanking new 125-room four-star Hyatt Place Georgetown Hotel, being developed along Red Road, Providence, just between Qualfon Guyana and Texila American University, is expected to add to the transformation of the East Bank Demerara corridor.
During a site visit by the Guyana Chronicle, on Wednesday, one of the sub-contractors provided insight into the progress.
The contractor explained that the foundation of the hotel has been completed, paving the way for the second phase.
In addition, three main drains for the hotel are being built by the sub-contractors. Despite some setbacks from the May/June rains, they’re still on schedule.
The general contractor is scheduled to begin steelwork later this month.
The hotel development is being pursued by SIR Investments Guyana Inc., a subsidiary of Universal Investments Limited, a company registered in 1976 in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
The Hyatt Place Georgetown is its first investment outside of Trinidad and Tobago.
Set on a sprawling three acres of land, the Hyatt Place Hotel is poised to offer a wide range of standard amenities designed to cater to diverse guest needs. These include different guest room options, with a particular focus on accessibility for persons with disabilities.

Furthermore, guests can expect to enjoy services such as guest laundry, room services, well-equipped meeting rooms, a restaurant, bar, and a social lounge.
For those looking to maintain their fitness routines while away from home, the hotel will feature a state-of-the-art fitness centre; and to relax and unwind, a pool will also be available.
With a projected 36-month timeline, the hotel is anticipated to be fully completed and operational in 2024. Throughout the construction phase, the project will significantly contribute to local employment opportunities.
Approximately 300 Guyanese from the surrounding communities of the project site will find employment, with an estimated 70 to 80 employees expected to be on board upon the successful completion of the facility.
The Hyatt Place Hotel project is part of a broader wave of development in Guyana’s hospitality sector. It joins other significant hotel projects in the area, such as the US$20 million Marriott-branded hotel currently under construction at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).
These investments outside of Central Georgetown are reshaping the region’s hospitality landscape and are set to enhance Guyana’s attractiveness as a destination for both business and leisure travellers.
Additionally, the US$15 million Aiden Hotel, affiliated with Best Western Hotel & Resorts, is taking shape at Robb and Oronoque Streets in Georgetown, with construction officially commencing in July 2021. Together, these developments are poised to make a lasting and positive impact on Guyana’s tourism and economic growth.
