73-year-old dies after accident at Harlem

ABDOOL Mohamed, a 73-year-old, died on Sunday, after he was struck down by a car while riding an electric cycle on the Harlem Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
According to a police report, the accident involved motorcar PAE 4134 owned and driven by a 26-year-old male resident of Belle West, Canal #2, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
Reports are that the car was proceeding west along the southern side of the road when the driver alleged that the cyclist rode across the road from north to south. The left front portion of the car collided with the left centre portion of the electric cycle.

As a result of the collision, the 73-year-old cyclist fell onto the road surface and sustained injuries on his body.
He was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor and pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver of the car was arrested, a breath alcohol test was conducted on him and no trace of alcohol was detected.
The victim’s body is at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination and investigations are ongoing.
