Inter-Secondary School Say Yes/ Say NO tournament.

THE Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC), one of Guyana’s leading youth and sports organization, will be hosting another cricket youth tournament as part of the club’s cricket development programme.

The club, on an annual basis prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, had hosted a series of cricket tournaments, including the popular Busta Champion of Champions First Division 40- over tournament and the launching of the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) Say Yes/Say NO tournament prior to the restart of the programme to assist the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) in the development of youth talent in the county.

RHTYSC Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster stated that the tournament will be contested by four secondary schools in the Lower Corentyne area. The teams are Lower Corentyne Secondary, JC Chandisingh Secondary, Port Mourant and Corentyne Comprehensive, at the Area H Gound from tomorrow June 8th.

The tournament will start with two semi-finals being played at 12 overs per side, while the finals will be 15 overs per side event.

Foster, who is also the president of the active Berbice Cricket Board (BCB ) stated that the tournament’s main objective is to get youths to say no to drugs, suicide, racism, crime and yes to education, life, religion and national unity.

The winning team takes home a total of $15,000 worth in educational materials while the runner-up gets $30,000 worth of items. The two losing semi-finalists will each get $15000 each. The Man of the Final gets $5,000 while several attractive financial prizes will be shared out during the presentation ceremony.

Foster disclosed that the tournament has been organised by the Rose Hall Town Namilco First Division Farfan and Mendes Under- 15 , Bakewell Under 17, Metro Females , Poonai Pharmacy and Pepsi Under- 19 teams.

The RHTYSC, for this year, will host at least four tournaments including a first division 20/20 tournament involving the eleven teams from the Ancient County. Foster hailed the support of GBTI, describing them as a true friend of cricket in Berbice and the RHTYSC. He reassured the management of the bank that the tournament will be well organised and will achieve all of its objectives.

Branch Manager of the GBTI Port Mourant Bank,, Andre Yhap expressed confidence in the organising skills of the RHTYSC and stated that the bank was delighted to be on board as the sponsor.

The sponsorship was part of the bank’s social responsibility to the general public and part of guiding youths on the correct path of life.
The launching was also attended by RHTYSC executives Keith Hicks, Tyrone Pottaya and GBTI Officers Radha Ramdihal and Aveeta Guyapersaud.
