Winning a Test after being made to follow on: Just four teams have done it

New Zealand scripted a dramatic turnaround in the second Test against England in Wellington, where the hosts came back from being asked to follow on to win in a thrilling fifth-day finish by just one run.

It not just helped the Kiwis draw the two-match series 1-1, but also added them to a select list of teams that have won a Test match after following on.

It is only the fourth such instance and the first since 2001, when VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid staged India’s remarkable comeback to beat Australia at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Here’s the list of teams that have achieved this rare feat:
2023: New Zealand won by one run against England on February 28 in Wellington
2001: India won by 171 runs against Australia on March 11 in Kolkata
1981: England won by 18 runs against Australia on July 16 in Leeds
1894: England won by 10 runs against Australia on December 14 in Sydney
