Six teams advance to second round of BCB/Ivan Madray 20/20 tournament

THE Berbice Cricket Board (BCB)/2022 Ivan Madray 20/20 tournament started in a blaze of glory with good weather and five matches across the Ancient County.
The tournament is one of at last three that the proactive BCB is aiming to successfully complete before the end of the year.

Albion, Tucber Park, Port Mourant, Young Warriors and Blairmont won their first-round matches to advance to the second round. BCB president Hilbert Foster and chairman of the Competitions Committee, Leslie Solomon visited each of the matches to make sure that all arrangements were in place and used the opportunity to hand over coaching equipment to coaches working in the area.

The tournament is being sponsored by Mr Chandradat Chintamani in memory of his uncle Ivan Madray, a former Test player who played two matches for West Indies in the 1950s.
The opening round attracted sizeable crowds to the venues as cricket restarted after a five-month break due to the rainy season. The opening round saw good performances from former Guyana and West Indies player Sewnarine Chattergoon, Josh Harrichan, Shabeer Baksh and Trevon Stanislaus.

Scores from the matches were:
Rose Hall Canje vs Tucber Park at Albion – Tucber Park won by 5 wickets. Rose Hall Canje scored 72 for 8 off 20 overs. Raymond Vankenie 12, Devindra Ramkishun 12, Extras contributed 20 runs. Bowling for Tucber Park, Qwesi Mickle took 3 for 9 off 3 overs and Nial Smith 2 for 10 off 3 overs.

Tucber Park, in reply, scored 73 for 5 off 17.1 overs. Zeynul Ramsammy 20, Martin Singh 9, Extras contributed 21 runs. Bowling for Rose Hall Canje, Sanjay Algoo grabbed 2 for 13 off 2 overs.
Albion vs Skeldon Community Centre at Albion, Albion won by 69 runs, having scored 139 for 5 off 20 overs. Sewnarine Chattergoon 65 not out, Kelvin Umroa 25, Leon Cecil 16. Bowling for Skeldon Community Centre, Shahab Rasheed took 2 for 19 off 4 overs.

Skeldon Community Centre, in reply, 70 all out in 15.5 overs; Zakel Gordon 26, Noland Richard 14. Bowling for Albion, Kelvin Umroa took 3 for 13 off 3 overs, Gourav Ramesh 2 for 6 off 3 overs, Leon Cecil 2 for 11 off 1.2 overs

Port Mourant vs Upper Corentyne at Port Mourant. Port Mourant won by 7 wickets. Upper Corentyne made 64 all out in 14.5 overs with S. Searro 20. Bowling for Port Mourant, Joshua Harrichan snared 4 for 3 off 3.4 overs, Salim Khan 3 for 5 off 2 overs, Vinood Samaroo 2 for 10 off 4 overs. Port Mourant scored 65 for 3 off 11.2 overs. Joshua Ramsammy 15, Rampertab Ramnauth 11, Madhan Budhan 11 not out. Bowling for Upper Corentyne, Omesh Mathura took 1 for 14 off 4 overs.

Police vs Blairmont at Blairmont: Blairmont won by 7 wickets. Police scored 106 all out off 18 overs. Kedar Amsterdam 31. Bowling for Blairmont; Shabeer Baksh took 4 for 16 off 4 overs, Waqar Hassan 3 for 8 off 4 overs, Seon Glasgow 1 for 19 off 4 overs.

Blairmont, in reply, 110 for 3 off 11.2 overs, Kevin Jawahir 27, A. Khan 24. Bowling for Police; Travis Drakes – 2 for 22 off 4 overs, K. Mentore 1 for 10 off 1 over.
Achievers vs Young Warriors at Bush Lot: Young Warriors won by 8 wickets. Achievers – 86 all out off 16.5 overs. Shamal Angel 20, Leon Andrews 17. Bowling for Young Warriors, Trevon Stanislaus took 3 for 9 off 4 overs, Suresh Dhanai 2 for 14 off 3 overs, Kassim Khan 2 for 20 off 4 overs. Young Warriors made 87 for 2 off 10.2 overs – Suresh Dhanai 40 not out and Trevon Stanislaus 16. Bowling for Achievers, Jayden Samuels captured 2 for 13 off 2 overs
