Minister Anthony is more than capable of delivering a first-class healthcare system

Dear editor,
I REFER to the findings of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) report that were ventilated in the Kaieteur News publication. I wish to speak specifically to the conditions you highlighted at the New Amsterdam Regional Hospital.

Firstly, it is wholly unfair for readers to heap blame on the current Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony for the findings depicted in the IDB report.
These issues could not have developed in the past two years that Dr. Anthony and the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) administration have been in power.

However, I hasten to say that I have confidence in Dr. Anthony, a medical doctor by profession, to deliver the long-awaited first-class healthcare system.
I urge Dr. Anthony and his team at the Ministry to press on with their engagement with the IDB to remedy the issues confronting our healthcare system.

Many Guyanese, like myself are depending on you to get it right. We are encouraged by your achievements thus far during the short two years.
Do not become distracted from the mission of transformational development in the healthcare system.

Yours truly,

George Sidwell
