Newly formed civic group 10Forward, on Monday, donated a quantity of books to the National Library in Linden, Region 10.

The books collected by members of the group represented the first public community project of 10FWD, ahead of Education Mo nth, celebrated nationally in September, a release said.

As part of the exercise, learners from across various levels of the Mackenzie Primary School participated in a reading stimulation session at the library and were themselves presented with new books as tokens of appreciation.

Delivering remarks at the presentation ceremony, Co-Chair of the group, Communication Specialist, Dario Mcklmon, said: “Our group, formed to help change mindsets and social dispositions towards development coming to the region at the hands of the ruling party, is here to work across the region in support of the national transformational agenda and the ‘One Guyana’ programme of President, Dr. Mohammed Irfaan Ali.”

He added: “We believe that the impartation of information and the acquisition of knowledge that will redound to personal and community empowerment of residents, remain vital to the shifts in social disposition that is required for the town of Linden and the region at large to move forward with the rest of the country, hence our symbolic but meaningful book drive as the first undertaking.”

Meanwhile, Librarian, Potoni Henry, expressed gratitude for the timely intervention and used the opportunity to remind residents of all ages that the library is still a fun reservoir of information and knowledge to visit regularly.

Co-Chair of 10FWD, Renautha Chin, told the media that while the group will quickly move on to a range of other community projects, the book drive will remain a rolling undertaking for which Lindeners and other Guyanese at home and in the diaspora can partner with the group.
