… Mary Fung-A-Fat makes first-round exist

AFTER reaching the Round-of-32 with his victory over Paul Kadoma of Uganda, Guyana’s Jason-Ray Khalil’s run at the Men’s singles championship at the Commonwealth Games came to a halt yesterday.

Khalil, facing Malaysia’s Eain Yow on Court 1 at the University of Birmingham Squash facility, despite his valiant effort, was beaten 11-4, 11-,2, 11-4. It was certainly a better showing at the Commonwealth Games for Khalil this time around, as compared to his 2018 round-of-64.

Earlier in the day, Mary Fung-A-Fat, who had a first-round bye, went down hard to Kaitlyn Watts of New Zealand in straight sets (11-2, 11-6, 11-4) in the round-of-32.
Team Coach Garfield Wiltshire said he was pleased with the performances of Guyana’s squash contingent.

He stated that the team will now shift their attention to the doubles tournament, where he said they will “now look to an even better-improved performance.”
Guyana’s squash team at the 22nd Commonwealth Games is made up of the Khalil siblings, Jason-Ray and Ashley, along with Fung-A-Fat and Shomari Wiltshire.
