Junior Caribbean Squash Championships…

GUYANESE Nicholas Verwey and Michael Alphonso will clash for the Boys Under-17 title at the ongoing Junior Caribbean Area Squash Championships in Guyana.

Both players registered contrasting semi-final victories at the Georgetown Club on Monday evening, and will now play today’s final from 12:00h.

Verwey defeated the talented Seth Thong of Trinidad and Tobago 11-8, 11-3, 11-6 in quite a clinical fashion, while Alphonso, a Caribbean Under-15 champion, had a slow start, but recovered to defeat Barbadian Alex Stewart 3-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-9.

Additionally, Avery Arjoon defeated her compatriot, Tiana Gomes 11-7, 11-7, 11-0 to reach today’s final at 10:30h against Trinidadian Josie Thong.

Guyanese Shomari Wiltshire also got into the Boys Under-19.

All finals will be contested today at the Georgetown Club.
