POPULAR cambio dealer, Vishraykanand Narayan, died on Monday, hours after his vehicle collided with a dead cow on the Diamond Access Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

Narayan,43, of Lot 8 Downer Street, Grove EBD, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

According to a police release, Narayan was the driver of motor vehicle PGG 9779, while his wife, Geeta Sammy, 46, was in the front passenger seat.

Narayan was proceeding south along the eastern side of the roadway when he collided with the dead animal which was lying on the said side of the roadway.

“He reportedly lost control of his vehicle which toppled several times and collided with a concrete culvert situated along the road where it remained stationary causing the driver and the occupant to receive injuries about their bodies,” the release said.

The couple was picked up in a conscious condition by public-spirited citizens and placed into an ambulance which took them to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre. They were both seen and examined by a doctor on duty.

Sammy was treated for minor abrasions about her body before being sent away. However, Narayan sustained a fractured shoulder and pelvis and had to be transferred to GPHC. He succumbed to his injuries at about 06:55 hours, while in the hospital’s male surgical ward.

His body is currently at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Investigations are ongoing.
