A 79-year-old farmer and father of five was killed on Friday morning after he was struck down by a minibus at Charity, Region Two.

Dead is Choomanlall called ‘Cyril’ of Adams Creek, Lower Pomeroon River.

The accident occurred around 10:00hrs in the vicinity of the Alfro Alphonso gas station and according to reports, Choomanlall was walking on the roadway at the time.

His relatives explained to this publication that he usually goes to Charity to sell vegetables. They said they received a call around 10:15hrs informing them about his death. The relatives, who are in shock at his sudden death, said that Choomanlall was living alone and would usually take care of himself.

“We get a call…we heard the driver rushed him but he died on the way. He got injuries to his head and body, “one relative related.

Choomanlall was picked up and rushed to the Charity Oscar Joseph Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors. His body is currently at the Charity mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.

He was described as a loving grandfather.

The minibus driver is currently in police custody as an investigation continues.
