TWENTY-SEVEN Warrant Officers, two Guyana Police Force Inspectors, and the Chief Prison Officer recently graduated from the Inaugural Warrant Officers’ Leadership Course.
According to the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), the course was conducted in collaboration with the Universal Defence and Security Solutions Limited (UDSS), based in the United Kingdom, and lasted 11 days.
The aim of the course was to prepare Warrant Officers with command, leadership, and management skills, which will enable them to effectively engage and support their Commanding Officers in the daily operations of their respective services.
The GDF noted that the training covered a wide range of subject areas, including Command Leadership and Management, Planning Exercises, Problem Solving and Decision Making, Military Law, Report Writing, Career Management of Soldiers, Presentation Skills, and Mental Resilience and Welfare.
Second in Command of the Training Corps, Lieutenant Colonel Lorraine Foster, who delivered the feature address at the simple closing ceremony, congratulated the students for successfully completing the training.
She underscored the level of responsibility entrusted to Warrant Officers and emphasised that the training had equipped them with the necessary skills to effectively aid in the operations and development of the Force.
“To us in the military, you the Warrant Officers represent the strength of the military’s backbone, and much is expected of you now that the training has ended. Whether you are in the Guyana Defence Force or any of the sister services, it is expected that, hereafter, you will demonstrate better accountability of your command,” Lieutenant Colonel Foster posited.
“You can no longer delink yourselves from issues of command, because not only have you been further exposed to command relationships, but you have been given an opportunity to have a better understanding of your functions and greater exposure to the human resource management as well. I expect, therefore, that you will seek to improve the quality of life of your subordinates and be intricately involved in their welfare,” she urged.
Lead Instructor, Lieutenant Colonel (Ret’d) Martin Traverse of the British Army, expressed his satisfaction with the diligence and commitment of participants.
