–as AFC releases list of nominees for top spots

SENIOR member of the Alliance For Change (AFC), Moses Nagamootoo was absent from the list of nominees for top executive posts within the political party.
Nagamootoo, who was Prime Minister in the former A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) + AFC administration, did not feature among the persons who were nominated for high-level positions such as leader, chairman, vice-chairman and general secretary of the party.

Based on the list released by the AFC on Friday, party Leader, Khemraj Ramjattan and General Secretary, David Patterson each secured nominations from eight groups for the position of leader of the party.

Nominees for the position of chairman were Catherine Hughes, Ramjattan, Sherod Duncan and Juretha Fernandes, while Ricky Ramsaroop, Valerie Garrido-Lowe, Devin Sears are among Hughes, Fernandes and Duncan for the position of vice-chairman.

Persons vying for the position of general secretary are Duncan, Hughes, Fernandes, Ramsaroop, Ramjattan, Neilson McKenzie and Michael Carrington.
In addition to those key executive positions, 55 members are vying for the 12 spots on the National Executive Committee (NEC).

The nominees will know their fate on Saturday, June 11, 2022, when the party host its national conference. According to the AFC, the conference will feature 285 delegates representing the ten regions in Guyana, the USA, Canada, UK, the Caribbean, the Women for Change (WFC) and the Youth For Change (YFC). There will also be 50 observers.

During the national conference, the party will also be laying out its plans for the next few years, which would include deliberations on the future of the AFC as a member of the coalition.
