A 25-YEAR-OLD security guard was, on Tuesday, charged for allegedly discharging his loaded service weapon at a party-goer at the Eclipse Bar at Leonora, West Coast Demerara.
Kadeem Andrews of Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara appeared before Magistrate Zamilla Ali-Seepaul at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court and was remanded to prison.
Andrews was not required to plead to the charge which alleged that on May 15, he discharged a loaded weapon at Ricardo Poloram.
He will make his next court appearance on June 17,2022.
According to a police report, on the date in question, Andrews, who is employed with a private security firm, was performing duties at the bar.
At about 02:30 hours, Poloram was drinking with friends when he went outside to urinate.
As he was re-entering the bar, he was confronted by Andrews. An altercation ensued, during which Andrews allegedly pulled out his service weapon and discharged a round towards Poloram.
Poloram received injuries to his neck and fell to the ground. He was picked up and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital. The area was checked for spent shells but none was found.
