CHIEF Magistrate, Ann McLennan, on Monday, remanded a 24-year-old man to prison for the murder of North Sophia resident, Yardan Jacobs.

Denzil Haynes, who is also a resident of the North Sophia community, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

He was not required to plead to the capital offence which alleged that, on April 26, 2022, at Georgetown, he murdered Jacobs.

Haynes, who was represented by attorney-at-law Bernard DaSilva, was remanded to prison until June 2, 2022.

This newspaper had reported that Jacobs, 27, and his cousin, Steve Bacchus, 29, were injured in the wee hours of April 16, 2022, when a man, who was identified as Haynes, shot them both in the aftermath of an argument in the same community.

According to Police Headquarters, Jacobs was hanging out with some friends, when he reportedly got into an argument with Haynes.

When Bacchus intervened, the suspect allegedly pulled out a firearm from the waist of his pants and discharged several rounds in the direction of the two cousins.

Jacobs received a gunshot wound to his upper right-side abdomen and Bacchus a gunshot to his lower right side back.

The suspect then made good his escape and the two injured men were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

Jacobs succumbed to his injuries on April 26, 2022, while receiving treatment.

The next day, police issued a wanted bulletin for Haynes in relation to the murder. On May 3, Haynes turned himself in at the Brickdam Police Station.
