THE Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) is saddened with the passing of its founding member and long-serving treasurer, Lakhram ‘Mike’ Singh, who recently succumbed whilst representing Wellman Masters in the just concluded Florida Cup in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
According to the GFSCA, in a release, “It was almost the conclusion of the second game of the tournament, which was held two weeks ago, when tragedy struck”.
GFSCA pointed out that “due to his leg-spinning exploits in softball cricket in Guyana and abroad, he was deservingly nicknamed Shane Warne, after the greatest Australian leg-spinner in the world.
“Mike’s softball career started in the late eighties and was a major player in the success of softball cricket in and out of Guyana. He sponsored many teams and competitions in the softball arena. At the time of his demise, he was a sponsor of youth hard ball cricket in the Ancient County of Berbice and supported many young players and cricket clubs across the length and breadth of Guyana.
The GFSCA said, “Mike played a pivotal role in the success of the annual cricket tournament, Guyana Softball Cup, run by the GFSCA. His achievements in the world of sports are unmatchable and he will be remembered for his smiling face. He was also a popular and successful businessman, being the owner of Mike’s Pharmacy.
“The GFSCA family takes this opportunity to extend sincere condolences to his wife and two kids, family, relatives, friends and everyone from the softball fraternity.
Mike’s funeral will be held today. He will be cremated at Good Hope Crematorium at 14:00 hrs.
