-Bhagwandin, Klautky and Beharry also in winners’ circle

NATIONAL badminton player Akili Haynes got the better of fellow national Tyrese Jeffrey, while Anna Perreira won two divisional titles in the finals of the two-day GUMDAC Easter Badminton Tournament on Saturday afternoon at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

Haynes bested Jeffery in an intense final of the Men’s A-Division, which ended 21-12 and 21-15.

Avinash Odit and Jonathon Mangra finished as joint third-place winners.

Perreira, on the other hand, won the Women’s B-Division title before stepping up to win the A-Division.

In the A-Division final, she defeated Shivanie Persaud in a keenly contested battle. She won the opener 21-14, before Persaud drew the game even with a similar score. In the final set, Perreira surged to a 21-13 victory.

Ambika Ramraj and Ayanna Watson finished as third-place winners.

Perreira was able to get the better of Mishka Beharry 21-17 and 21-9 in the final of the B-Division, with Priyanka Shivnauth and Watson finishing third.

Beharry was able to better Shivnauth 21-16 and 21-12 in the final of the C-Division.

Meanwhile, in the packed Men’s B-Division, Varendra Bhagwandin defeated Matthew Beharry in a thrilling final.

Bhagwandin won the clash 2-1 (25-23, 18-21 and 21-6). Ajave Singh and Jaurel Hendricks finished joint third.

In the Men’s C-Division final, Matthew Kluatky defeated Nkosi Beaton 21-10, 10-21 and 21-14.
