Leonora Secondary, L’Aventure Secondary and Charlestown among winners
THE Leonora Secondary School, L’Aventure Secondary and Charlestown Secondary School were among the winners when the season opener of the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport/ National Sports Commission, Janet Jagan Memorial Girls’ School Windball Championships was held recently at the National Gymnasium.
The event, which is being organised by Sports Officer Allister Munroe commenced with a number of Region Three schools in action.
In their clash, Leonora Secondary bowled first. Their opponents West Demerara Secondary reached 56-3 off their allotted five overs with Amy Persaud hitting an unbeaten 25.
In reply, Leonora cruised to 59-1 from four overs. Rosalin Samaroo finished with 28 not out and Marisa Balkarran 16.
Meanwhile, a solid knock of 42 from Tricia Singh helped Vreed-en-Hoop Secondary to a revenge win over Zeeburg Secondary (the first runners up from the 2019 tournament).
Vasantie Kishore and Denicia Singh were unbeaten on 39 and 20 respectfully in support.
Zeeburg Secondary, in reply, could only muster 54-1 (Abigail Bennie 20 and Rashoda Khan 18), before their overs expired.
In another clash, L’Aventure Secondary got the better of Annandale Secondary.
The East Coast Demerara team batted first with Puja Singh hitting 32 and J. Tularam supporting with 23 unbeaten runs which pushed the total to 69-1.
In reply, L’Aventure reached 70-2 with Keira Jack hitting 28 and A. Caesar 14.
The tournament is expected to continue tomorrow.
On Tuesday March 29, the Region Six leg will be held at the Rose Hall Estate Welfare Centre ground from 09:25h.
Schools from Canje and New Amsterdam will be in action.
