THE Ministry of Health has reported that four more persons who tested positive for COVID-19 have died, taking the death toll to 1,220.
An 89-year-old unvaccinated woman; a 53-year-old unvaccinated man; an 81-year-old man, whose vaccination status is unknown – all from Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) – and an 89-year-old unvaccinated woman from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) are Guyana’s latest fatalities.
There are currently 742 active COVID-19 cases in Guyana, following the addition of 35 new cases on February 26, 2022.
The 35 newly confirmed cases were recorded in Regions Three, Four, Five, Seven and Nine.
Region Three recorded three new cases; Region Four recorded 25 new cases; Region Five recorded two new cases; Region Seven recorded three new cases; and Region Nine recorded two new cases.
The country has now recorded a total of 62,891 cases since March 2020.
Of the active cases, 10 persons are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the National Infectious Diseases Hospital, Liliendaal; 30 are in institutional isolation; 702 are in home isolation, and 12 are in institutional quarantine.
Many of the persons infected with the virus are said to be asymptomatic, that is, they are not exhibiting symptoms.
The updated COVID–19 Emergency Measures are in force until February 28, 2021. They may be extended or amended by notice of the Minister of Health, after an assessment of the prevailing public health conditions related to the pandemic.
As per the current measures, all persons are required to wear face masks when leaving their homes, and physical distancing and adequate sanitisation are recommended.
