EIGHT adults and six children are now homeless following a fire that destroyed their dwelling house.
Kulcharran Prashad, 63, of Section ‘C’ Lot 56, Number 79 Village, told reporters that the fire started around 13:00hrs on Thursday.
He stated that a wire sparked and it set alight a curtain.
“It had a blind hanging down over the window and this wire spark and catch the blind and it catch ah fire,” the elderly man said.
Prashad, who repairs fishing nets for a living, said the fire quickly spread through the upper flat and subsequently the entire house in a short time. Neither he nor the other occupants of the house were able to save anything.

In tears, the man said he has nowhere to go and no money to even rebuild.
He and his family are staying with a neighbour.
“Meh nah get money fuh mek one house since yesterday meh ah cry, meh has some money in a barrel, people give we cloth to wear and them pickney too. So much money meh spend last year to mek meh house and it bun down,” he cried.
Meanwhile, the man’s daughter-in-law, Kathy Augustus, 24, who also resides at the property with her five children, said she was cooking when she heard a sound.
“Pax! pax! pax!” and she noticed the fire.
She said her husband ran upstairs to see if anyone was there and then ensured that the children who were downstairs were brought to safety.
They were unable to save anything from the blaze.
“Meh had five barrel with them children clothes and everything bun, everything gone,” she said.
Among the homeless are children between the ages of one to eight.
An investigation into the fire is underway.
