THE decision in the case filed by four men, who are seeking to overturn their 81-year sentence and conviction for the gruesome murder of 72-year-old, Clementine Fiedtkou-Parris, is expected to be handed down today by the Court of Appeal.

Convicted for the murder are Orwin Hinds of Mocha, East Bank Demerara (EBD); Kevin October of Agricola EBD; Cleon Hinds; and Roy Jacobs of Evans Street, Charlestown, Georgetown.

In November 2015, Justice Navindra Singh, at the Demerara High Court, sentenced the quartet after a 12-member jury found them guilty of the offence.

Though their attorneys, the men moved to the Appeal Court claiming that the trial was unfair, the judge erred in law and that the sentence was unduly severe.

The men are also arguing that the trial judge admitted evidence that was prejudicial to a fair trial.

The appeal is being heard by Chancellor (ag), Yonette Cummings-Edwards and Justices of Appeal, Dawn Gregory and Rishi Persaud.

Orwin Hinds is being represented by attorney George Thomas, while attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson is on record for October and Cleon Hinds. Dexter Todd is representing Jacobs.

It was reported that the four men murdered Fiedtkou-Parris pursuant to an arrangement whereby money was to be passed from one person to another.

On the evening of June 30, 2011, two men went to the pensioner’s Robb Street, Georgetown house and asked for ‘Auntie’; a title by which she was called.

They were directed up a sidestep and, as the woman emerged from her bedroom, one of the men pulled out a gun and shot her several times to the upper part of her body.

The men then escaped in a waiting car, while the injured woman was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
