Akshaya Persaud shines on day one of practice match

AKSHAYA Persaud hit an unbeaten 54 as Leon Johnson’s XI ended day one on 188-7 at the Albion Community Centre ground yesterday.
Persaud and Clinton Pestano (24*) were at the crease at stumps, adding 43 for the eighth wicket against Keemo Paul’s XI.

Seon Glasgow took 1-6 while Sylus Tyndall (1-13), Qumar Torrington (1-15), Keemo Paul (1-17) did early damage but it was Veerasammy Permaul (1-43) who did the bulk of the bowling with 30 overs in the day’s play.
Tagenarine Chanderpaul (27) and Leon Johnson (25) got good starts but failed to go big on a day when there were numerous ‘soft’ dismissals.

However, the 24-year-old Persaud buckled down, spending over three hours at the crease as he faced 152 balls and struck four boundaries.
Pestano, known for his flamboyance has looked responsible during his 71-ball stay thus far.

Day two action starts at 10:00hrs.
This four-day match is the first of three, organised for the Guyana Harpy Eagles, ahead of next month’s Regional Four-Day Championship.
