Who will win GFF/K&S year-end tournament?
WILL Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Football Club defend their title or will Western Tigers live up to the ‘favourites’ tag and lift the Guyana Football Federation (GFF)/Kashif and Shanghai year-end football tournament when the final is contested today at the National Track and Field Facility, Leonora?
At a pre-match briefing held at KFC Guyana on Vlissengen Road, Western Tigers coach Charles ‘Lilly’ Pollard said he was happy to transition from a player to a coach in the said tournament.
He opined it will be a tactical match and he is nervous on the basis that he personally has no control anymore on how a final may go and the trust has to go into his players.
Tigers captain Curtez Kellman also said he is eager for the final. He has confidence in his teammates to come up trumps and secure the title which many have touted them to win.
GDF, backed by their coach Kavin Pearce and captain Sherwyn Caesar, plan to keep it simple and stick to their plans.
Caesar said they are really happy to have a return to football, given the long layoff due to the pandemic and he is happy the players have stuck together and are now ready to cross the finish line.
The captain further eluded that should they get a lead, they would work hard to ensure it remains, given the depth and scoring ability in Tigers.
The winning team will pocket $2M the runners-up will collect $1M while the Most Valuable Player will win a diamond ring valued $520 000.
The final is scheduled for 20:30hrs while the third-place playoff is at 18:00hrs between Guyana Police Force FC and Den Amstel FC.
