759 active COVID-19 cases recorded

EVEN as government continues to implement systems to minimize the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Ministry of Health disclosed that there are currently 759 active cases following the addition of 66 cases on Saturday.

The country has now recorded a total of 38,817 confirmed cases since the first COVID-19 case was reported in March 2020.

As efforts continue, the ministry further disclosed that no new COVID-19 deaths were recorded within the past 24 hours.

The 66 newly confirmed cases were recorded in nine of the ten administrative regions excluding Region Eight.

Region Four accounted for 21 of the new cases; Regions One, Two and 10 recorded one new case each; Region Three recorded five cases; Region Five recorded 12 new cases; Region Six recorded 16 new cases; while Regions Seven and Nine recorded three and six cases respectively.

Of the active cases, 11 persons are at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the National Infectious Diseases Hospital, Liliendaal; 43 are in institutional isolation; 699 are in home isolation, and six are in institutional quarantine.

Many of the persons infected with the virus are said to be asymptomatic, that is, they are not exhibiting symptoms.

The updated COVID–19 Emergency Measures are in force until December 31, 2021. They may be extended or amended by notice of the Minister of Health, after an assessment of the prevailing public health conditions of the pandemic.

As per the current measures, all persons are required to wear face masks when leaving their homes, and physical distancing and adequate sanitisation are recommended. The current curfew period is 12:00 to 04:00hrs.
