NINETY-THREE pensioners and persons living with disabilities in Mathew’s Ridge, Region One and surrounding communities, were presented with hampers on Tuesday evening.
The distribution exercise, which was held at the Matthew’s Ridge Community Centre, was led by Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, who also holds parliamentary responsibility for the region, and Community Development Council (CDC) Chairperson, Sharon Phillips.
The hampers, which were funded by the Regional Democratic Council, are intended to assist vulnerable households within the area, especially during the Christmas season.
While addressing residents, Minister Croal stated that Mathew’s Ridge is heading in the direction of development as the area will soon see an improved water supply following the completion of a well drilling project. The drilling of the well will be completed by the end of the year and it should become operational by the end of January 2022.
He further stated that in the coming year, the Mathew’s Ridge Community Centre and the playground, which is attached, will also be upgraded by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.
Additionally, Minister Croal participated in the annual Port Kaituma Christmas tree light-up.
Addressing residents, the minister called for the promotion of peace and camaraderie during the holiday season.
He also pleaded with residents to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols, road safety and to be moderate in their celebrations.
Regional Chairman, Brentnol Ashley; Martakai Neighborhood Democratic Council (NDC) Chairman, Orlando Thorne; Deputy Regional Executive Officer, Shem Cuffy and other officials were also present at the event.
