Overseas support for project ‘Cricket Gear’ to benefit young, promising cricketers’

FORMER Port Mourant Cricket Club (PMCC) opening batsman and captain Rajendra Daniel Sadeo is the latest addition to the list of contributors involved in the, ‘Cricket Gear for Young and Promising Cricketers in Guyana’.

The current West Indies Over-50 player who also represented Berbice at the Senior Level and Guyana at the Under-19 level, donated one cricket bat, a pad and arm guard.

The Florida-based Sadeo is a former classmate of Anil Beharry at Lower Corentyne Secondary School, a class that also produced National players David Fingal and Nyeem Baksh.

The gear will be used for distribution towards this initiative, which is a joint effort by Kishan Das of the USA and Anil Beharry of Guyana.
The organisers thank Sadeo for his assistance. He responded by saying that he is happy to be part of this project and give back to the youths in the county of his birth.

Their aim is to provide cricket gear free of cost for young and talented cricketers in Guyana. The project is seeking new and used cricket gear which will then be distributed across the length and breadth of Guyana.

The project has so far attracted some $40 000 cash, 12 pairs of boots, 12 pairs of batting pads, 15 bats, 9 pairs of batting gloves, 1 thigh pad, 1 arm guard and 4 cricket bags, as part of the donations.

Nineteen young players from Essequibo Coast, Pomeroon and the East Canje area and Lower East Coast, Berbice have already benefitted from a junior gear bag, 8 bats, 6 pairs of batting pads and 6 pairs of batting gloves.

Meanwhile, two clubs in Pomeroon also benefitted from 2 used bats. Rose Hall Estate CC were recipients of a set of stumps and bails.
Talent-spotting is being done across Guyana with guidance from club leaders to identify players. Players must be in school and must be disciplined. Players above school age will also be considered.
