FOUR Guyanese and a Barbadian were arrested in the Land of the Flying Fish with a quantity of marijuana in their possession.
According to news outlet Barbados Today, security forces detained the group of men in a counter-narcotics operation more than a week ago in Barbados’ territorial waters.

The joint counter-narcotics operation netted four Guyanese and a Barbadian, along with the boat which was allegedly used to transport marijuana to Barbados.

Acting Lieutenant Commander of the Barbados Coast Guard, Derek Brathwaite, said that the operation which was conducted on November 24 – but only now being made public – involved teams from the coast guard, the Police Drug Squad and other agencies.

“On November 24, the Royal Barbados Police Force, the Barbados Coast Guard and other agencies participated in a joint counter-narcotics operation off the coast of Barbados which resulted in the seizure of contraband, the detaining of five individuals, one Barbadian and four persons identified as nationals of Guyana and one vessel,” Lt Commander Brathwaite told Barbados Today, Thursday evening.

He said that all other information related to this seizure would have to be provided by the police who have taken over the case for investigations and any possible prosecution.

Head of Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit, James Singh noted that his agency has been in contact with the Barbadian authorities and they are collaborating on the investigations.
