… Paraguay down Guyana in doubles

CUBAN Rene Vinajera topped Guyana Jonathan Van Lange in the Round-of-64 stage at the Table Tennis segment at the ongoing Junior Pan American Games in Cali, Colombia.

The 14-year-old Van Lange, came against the 19-year-old Cuban – the tournament caters to up to Under-23 players – lost 4-0 and was knocked out of the competition.
He lost the first set 11-5, came back strong to narrowly lose the second 12-10 before surrendering the third and fourth sets 11-8, 11-7.

Van Lange, who attended the event as a Universality selection had spent the last few weeks in the United States of America at a high-performance camp.
Additionally, in the men’s doubles, where he partnered with Miguel Wong,. they lost to Paraguay 3-1.

They claimed the first set 11-9 but failed to take another set losing 11-5, 11-8, and 11-8. Wong who qualified by virtue of world ranking into the singles round of 32 played Elias Lopes of Argentine, yesterday evening.
