ANDREW Phillips called “Suffa’ was, on Tuesday, fined $40,000 by Magistrate Peter Hugh after he admitted to trafficking less than half a pound of cannabis.

Phillips was arraigned before the Weldaad Magistrate’s Court and pleaded guilty to the charge which alleged that on November 22, 2021, at Rosignol Public Road, West Bank Berbice, he had 156 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The prosecutor told the court that Phillips is a known character to the police since he was charged several times before. It is alleged that on the date in question, police on patrol saw Phillips acting in a suspicious manner along the Rosignol Public Road.

He was confronted by ranks and during a search of his person, a black plastic bag was found tied to his pants waist. The bag was searched and a quantity of cannabis was found inside. He was arrested and charged for the offence.

Magistrate Hugh, after considering that Phillips did not waste the court’s time, ordered him to pay a fine of $40,000.
