GOVERNMENT Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh on Wednesday gave testimony about a post-mortem examination he’d performed on 58-year-old Fazal Shaheed, who was murdered in 2017.
Shawn DosSantos and Stephon Howard, both of Freeman Street, East La Penitence are currently on trial before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow and a 12-member jury at the Demerara High Court.
The accused have both pleaded not guilty to killing Shaheed on September 24, 2017, during an armed robbery at his Freeman Street home.
During Wednesday’s hearing, Dr. Singh told the court that Shaheed had died from multiple injuries due to gunshot wounds, and had bled from his heart, liver and kidney.

The doctor told the court that “a copper- coloured metal”, which appeared to be a bullet, was found in Shaheed’s abdomen, and that after retrieving it, he handed it over to the police.
The State is being represented by Prosecutor Cicelia Corbin, while Attorneys-at-Law Nigel Hughes, Konyo Sandiford and Associates are on record for the duo.
The matter has been adjourned until today.
At the time of the incident, the Guyana Chronicle had reported that on Sunday, September 24, 2017, gunmen stormed Shaheed’s home while relatives were making final preparations for the one-year memorial service of his father.
Fazal Shaheed was reportedly in the yard at around 00:40 hours when the gunmen struck, while his two brothers, sisters and mother were in the house. His brothers, Talim and Shalim, who had come in from Canada and the US respectively for the service, were both shot about their bodies.
The suspects reportedly told the police that the gun that was used in the commission of the crime was borrowed from a friend.
They reportedly claimed that after seeing “strange faces” in the street, and having learnt that the persons were foreigners, they planned the robbery.
