FORMER Essequibo Senior Inter-County captain, Elroy Stephney, is once again hitting out at the Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB), citing dishonesty regarding the non-disclosure of the minutes of its Annual General Meeting to verify the body’s legal standing.

According to Stephney, the ECB has been adamant in not co-operating with the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) in providing the relevant documents including its financial statement in which the Board received millions of dollars in subvention during the past ten years.

“This is a serious situation that requires the ECB to come clean with its constituent members since there is a gross level of uncertainty as to the function and constitutionality of the Board”, he went on.

The elegant left-hander, who is also an accredited CWI Level 11 Coach, disclosed that the Board is seeking to have an Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) this weekend, a move he said should not be supported by the various area committees. “I cannot participate in a process whereby the operations of the ECB have been shrouded in secrecy and illegitimacy for a number of years given that meetings or competitions were seldomly held among the members”.

According to the former all-rounder, the Board is being held hostage and has been crippled by inactivity and much to the detriment of the vast talent of the county’s cricketers. ‘The time has come for a new dispensation and the injection of passion, commitment and a genuine desire among members to fulfil the mandate of the Board, argued Stephney.

Instead, he said that the current situation is a complete failure and should be corrected. Meanwhile, the election of the ECB is constitutionally due in January of 2022 and all eyes will be on the contenders vying for the top post.
