VETERAN Guyanese aviator, Captain Malcolm Chan-a-Sue, 82, and his 84-year-old wife, Margaret Chan-a-Sue, are patients at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation after they were involved in a three-vehicle accident on Saturday at High and Barrack Streets, Kingston, Georgetown.

Police Headquarters, in a statement, noted that the captain was driving motorcar, PLL 4477, with his wife in the front seat at around midday. They were proceeding east along the northern drive lane of Barrack Street when, it is alleged, that Captain Chan-a-Sue failed to stop at the intersection of High and Barrack Streets.

Police said there is a traffic sign there that is marked ‘STOP’ along with a stop line that is lawfully placed. According to the police, the driver failed to stop and continued further east across the said intersection in front of minibus, BSS 8899, which was proceeding north along the western drive lane of High Street.

As a result, the front of the minibus collided with the right side centre portion of the captain’s car. The aviation veteran allegedly lost control of his car as a result of the collision and then crashed into motorcar, PWW 5212, which was parked on the eastern side parapet of High Street facing north.

The passengers and the minibus driver were treated for their injuries and discharged from the hospital while the captain and his wife are hospitalised.

Mr Chan-a-Sue was the recipient of the first Guyanese Pilots scholarship to Air Work services training of Perth, United Kingdom in 1957. He is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Art Williams and Harry Wendt Aeronautical Engineering School (AWHWAES).
