… Persaud wins Trophy Stall golf competition
FORMER Guyana Open champion and legitimate challenger for this year’s prestigious title Avinda ‘Ganguly’ Kishore registered a two-over-par score on Saturday to announce his presence in next weekend’s Guyana Open golf championship.
Last Saturday’s Trophy Stall golf competition was used by several golfers to get match-ready for the October 30-31 GTT-sponsored Guyana Open.
Kishore shot two rounds of 36 to register the best gross score at the event. His brother, Avinash Persaud, who is favourite to retain the 2021 championship title, was two shots behind at 74.
The 30-year-old Persaud has had several below-par scores, including a three-under 67 late last month, but he has not been as clinical in his latest competitions.

Although the overall gross score winner takes the spoils,. the Guyana Open is laden with different categories, including the 10-18 and the 19-28 handicap divisions. In Saturday’s competition, those looking to make their mark in these two events were able to win prizes.
Videsh Persaud, who plays with a handicap of 23 emerged victorious in the overall net competition. The left-handed golfer edged out Hilbert Shields in a countback. Shields, who also won the best net front-nine and the nearest-to-the-pin trophies, finished with a net 65 after a gross score of 81 (handicap 16).
Third place went to 12-handicapper Ayube Subhan, who finished with a net score of 66 after he grossed 78.
Subhan had tied Kishore with a gross back-nine score of 36 to stage his fightback after a 42 front nine.
