Alleged drug mule, recruiters remanded

A DRUG mule and her alleged recruiters, were, on Friday, remanded to prison for drug trafficking following the discovery of cocaine concealed in two bowls of frozen curry and pepperpot.

Mallika Lambert, a 33-year-old hairdresser, was jointly arraigned along with Devon James, 26, and Rachiel Moore, 23, at the Grove/Diamond Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Judy Latchman.

The trio denied that on October 12, at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, they had 6.232 kilograms of cocaine in their possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Magistrate Latchman remanded the trio to prison until November 11.

According to reports, on the day in question, ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), intercepted Lambert, who was an outgoing passenger on Copa Airlines destined to Panama with onward connections to John F. Kennedy Airport.

A search was conducted on one of the checked-in luggage and ranks discovered 6.232 kilograms of suspected cocaine concealed in a bowl of frozen curry and a bowl of frozen pepperpot.

Lambert was arrested, and under caution admitted to receiving the narcotics from James and Moore to smuggle overseas.
