THE People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) on Saturday hosted a vaccination drive and barbecue at the party’s Robb Street, Georgetown, headquarters.

Speaking with the Sunday Chronicle on the sidelines, Minister within the Ministry of Housing, Susan Rodrigues, said the party’s Campbellville group would usually host fund-raising events annually or biannually, but the COVID-19 pandemic had affected previous activities over the last two years.

“Because of COVID, we haven’t been doing much of that, but today we decided to do a barbecue fund-raising activity where we encouraged people to come out and get vaccinated also,” Minister Rodrigues related.

By the midday hours, the on-site representatives of the Ministry of Health had vaccinated some 80 people with first or second-dose Pfizer or Sputnik-V vaccines.

“We have seen a lot of pregnant women and adolescents come out,” Rodrigues, who is also the Chairperson of the Campbellville group, noted.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect negatively the entire planet. As of October 9, 2021, Guyana confirmed some 33, 566 cases since March 2020 with the bulk of those cases concentrated in Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), which is the most populous region in Guyana.
