Four more persons succumb to COVID-19

–Health Ministry records 115 new cases

FOUR more persons have died after contracting the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), taking the country’s death toll to 807.

According to the Ministry of Health, the fatalities were a 69-year-old male from Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), a 66-year-old from Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), a 70-year-old male and a 74-year-old female, both from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica). All four persons, according to the ministry, were unvaccinated.

According to the release, the patients were admitted with COVID-19-like symptoms and died while receiving care at medical institutions.
Meanwhile, of the 115 new cases recorded on Tuesday, Region Four accounted for 41, while Region 10 followed behind with 20 new cases.
Other new cases were recorded in Region Two (five cases), Region Three (18 cases), Region Five (three cases), Region Six (13 cases), Region Seven (one case), Region Eight (one case) and Region Nine (13).

To date, the country has recorded a total of 32,701 confirmed COVID-19 cases. Some 34 persons are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), while there are 3,485 persons in home isolation, 129 persons in institutional isolation, and two persons in institutional quarantine.

All Guyanese are reminded to observe the protocols contained in the Gazetted COVID-19 Emergency Measures, which are in effect until October 31, 2021, along with other measures, such as regular hand-washing and social distancing, to curb the spread of the virus.
